Hydroponics otherwise known as indoor <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/gardening"title="" >gardening has been steadily growing in popularity as a hobby. People, young and new have started turning those empty spaces to their own personal gardens where they could grow what they want and when they want. Imagine yourself in the middle of the desert or that freezing cabin somewhere in the Arctic and be able to grow roses all year round. So if you ever decide to pick up that seed and decide what plant to grow at the convenience of your home or backyard, this guide would help to answer your questions from A to Z. Hydroponics or indoor gardening requires skills and know how, but the rewards in the end like watching that flower bloom or that seed turn into a glorious blossom is reward in itself. So let us walk you through this and answer all your questions in this indoor gardening guide.

Advantages of Indoor Gardening (Hydroponics) over Traditional Gardening

Many people have turned to alternative of indoor gardening. It is more efficient and economical if done properly than traditional <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/soil"title="" >soil gardens. Here are just a few advantages of indoor gardening:

Environmental factors such as temperature or soil and weather conditions do not affect hydroponic or indoor gardens as they are sheltered from such elements with fan and climate controllers for example.

Soil based gardens increase the risk of disease as they are ideal habitats for bacteria and microorganisms.

Soil based gardens also present the troublesome work of weeding out undesired vegetation and soil maintenance through fertilization and tilling.

Space consideration is also a factor as a large number of plants could be grown in such confined and odd spaces where creativity is the only boundary.

Scientifically, vegetables and fruits grown through indoor gardening (hydroponics) contain bigger amounts of vitamins and minerals, and are better sources of nutrition.

Indoor gardening (hydroponics) systems are fairly simple. It is tailored to the individual as to what he needs and what he wants. Simple setups for ordinary hobbyists could be turned into complex ones to more season and professionals as they desire. Indoor gardening has no specific person in mind, the love for gardening and growing plants is what is common to hydroponics hobbyists. Proper planning and design together with that you as a hobbyist needs is what makes a successful project. It may seem to require a little effort and expense at the start but the benefits and fruits of indoor gardening far outweigh the costs and effort. It only takes one simple setup if done right and the benefits can be harvested all year long.

Choosing Indoor Hydroponic Systems over traditional Gardening

Hydroponic Systems present numerous advantages for the <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/gardener"title="" >gardener, freedom from uncontrollable environmental factors such as the weather, soil condition and time of year presents the most obvious reasons. Different types of growing mediums allow for those who plan to grow fruits or vegetables, better tasting and more nutritious products is the definite advantage. Production is also increased so those who plan to use indoor gardening (hydroponics) present a better yield thus is it more financially rewarding.

Numerous systems ranging from simple to complex can be tailored to each individual’s specific need. Setting up complex systems for a business for individuals who want to make it their livelihood or for that individual who lives in an apartment with a limited space presents no difficulties. It is only an individual’s desire and imagination that limits indoor gardening (hydroponics).

A recent survey shows that an increasing number of professionals are using home based offices. This is because a home based office not only allows one to save time in commuting but at the same time enables one to reduce work hours as well; thus getting to spend more time with the family. However, home based offices come with some innate problems like lack of living space as well as privacy. For professionals facing such a dilemma, therefore a garden office is the best solution.

In recent times, many employers too prefer professionals who work from home as they not only show improved productivity but at the same time allow the company to save on the cost of infrastructure. However, what worries the employer is the lack of peaceful ambience in an employee’s home that would let him complete his work peacefully. Garden lodges products are designed mainly to be used as garden offices and are the best solution in such a case. After conducting a careful detailed site survey of your garden, you can choose a garden office that will best suit your needs. When you are working from home there are many options. You can work from anywhere – right from your kitchen table to the loft. Whatever be the option for a home based office, a garden office still remains the best solution as it offers you an independent working space separate from your home. Most importantly you can have the much-needed privacy that a garden studio offers for carrying out your work more effectively and efficiently.

The best thing about a garden studio is that it combines functionality with aesthetics. If you do design your garden appropriately you can create an office that not only has convenient electrics and lighting but will also provide you with a professional environment. Being a separate construction that has been designed specifically for office work, it will provide the right ambience for your work all the year round in comfort and security.

Gardenlodges.co.uk will provide you with the best solution to your home working dilemma. The traditional garden lodges are priced at around £12,995 and use modern construction techniques that result in an elegant blending of functionality with aesthetics. The garden offices provided by gardenlodges.co.uk complement any property. What sets the company apart from its competitors is that it allows you to personalize your garden office and create your own unique design best suited for your exact requirements.

While many people choose to grow their herbs inside or in a window box, if you have the space available a larger herb garden may be a good option for you. Since herbs are both beautiful and useful, they are a great addition to any garden.

Herb garden designs depend on a variety of factors. Things like available space, desired style, desired herbs and other factors will dictate what you can do with your herb garden designs. Perhaps the most important factor in herb garden designs is aesthetics. The style of your garden should complement the style of your home as well as reflect your personal style.

In the past English style herb garden designs have been quite popular, and are still the preference of those who like neat rows and symmetry. There is something nostalgic and appealing about neat hedge rows that frame lovely flowering herbs such as lavender, or small shrub plants like rosemary. They usually feature some type of center focal point in the middle, whether it is a statue, or garden furniture or a fountain.

Perhaps one of the best herb garden designs for a small space is a design that uses tiered planters. The reason this works well for smaller areas is that the footprint of the area used is small but as the tiers in the raised planter boxes move up, you gain more planting area.

Another of the most popular herb garden designs is the more modern design of the square garden. It is laid out in a similar fashion to the English style garden but is more open. Where the English garden is usually bordered by short neatly manicured hedges, the square garden is not. English herb garden designs usually feature paths that are covered in small pea gravel, but square herb garden designs feature paths that are covered in pavers of some type.

When you are planning your herb garden one of the critical factors is the variety of plants and where you will put them. Some of your herb plants will grow tall if you allow them to, while some will become very shrub like, being full and low to the ground. Some will require more sunlight than others and some will require more water than others. So when you are choosing the variety of herbs that you want to grow it is important to plan accordingly. Just choosing the herbs that you would like most to have in your kitchen and then planting them can result in problems.

Herbs can also be planted in your existing flower garden if you have one, and they often make beautiful additions. But you will want to be careful as the plant food and pesticides (if you choose to use them) that you would use for flowers are much different than those used on edible plants. The products used for flowers are highly toxic if ingested, so erring on the side of caution is always best.

Rose Garden

The texture and the fullness of the rose is unlike any other flower, and they come in a wide variety of scents and colors that range from a very bright yellow to a dark deep red. It is curious that such a beautiful flower is also equipped with such a thorny stem. A little of the good and the bad from nature I suppose. Roses originally came from the northern hemisphere, and there are over a hundred species growing in mostly temperate regions. Although the rose as been the flower of choice to express ones love for many years now, it was used originally for medicinal purposes in medieval times.

Rose gardens are not only one of the most beautiful types of flower gardens to have, they are without a doubt the most difficult to grow and maintain. This doesn’t mean one should not give it a try, it just means you should research the subject so you are well prepared. One of the biggest challenges you will run into when doing research on rose garden material is finding the time to continue searching. Many of the articles that you uncover on this subject will be useful, but there will be some that won’t be. It is necessary that you find the best resources available on this subject.

Whether to plant red roses, yellow roses, rose vines, rose bushes, or climbing roses are just a few of the choices you will need to make when planning your rose garden. There are many types of roses to plant in your garden so take your time when considering what kind of flowers you want blooming in your garden.

If it is hard for you to visualize your finished rose garden design by just looking at your layout, there is some very good garden landscape design software available. Much of the garden landscape design software was originally developed for professional landscapers, but since has been modified for the beginner who wants to do-it-themselves. There are many do-it-yourself landscape design software programs available today. Landscape design software lets you see a virtual picture of the rose garden design and enables you to move items around and see the changes you make come to life. Most landscape design software programs offer advice on using and placing the many different types of roses available today in your design. A well designed rose garden will always change with time, and some of the landscape design software available will allow you to view your rose garden as it matures. You can see what it will look like 5 or 10 years from now when the rose bushes and plants have grown and matured.

The leading search engine for finding rose garden related info is Google. Finding rose garden material on the net isn’t arduous; it just takes a little bit of diligence. While one might believe that the greatest means to use for researching thorough info on this topic is the internet, it is vital not to leave out other sources. Keep in mind; you’re not going to find every tidbit of rose garden information educational. To stay current with the newest info, you should think about signing up for an RSS feed on the topic of rose gardens

One of the most famous rose gardens is the White House Rose Garden, and is located in the west wing of the White House. Many Presidential ceremonies and news conferences have taken place here, as well as the wedding of Richard Nixon’s daughter Tricia, to Edward Cox in 1971. First Lady Ellen Louise Wilson the wife of President Woodrow Wilson established the garden in 1913 when she redesigned what was previously known as the colonial gardens.

As any tea lover would tell you, making tea from fresh herbs can be so flavorful that it’s a wonder more people don’t try it. It doesn’t get any fresher than growing your own herbs and harvesting them for use in your own kitchen. A Tea herb garden isn’t hard to start, it can be easily learned, and you can start in just a few easy steps. Throughout the ages people have cultivated herbs for their own private use, either for medicinal purposes or simply to enjoy a good cup of tea. Some herbs used for tea you’ve undoubtedly heard of and tried before, while others are more obscure and harder to come by. Here are some that others have grown in their private tea herb gardens that you might want to try for yourself.

Chamomile is probably one of the best known herbs used for centuries to aid in an assortment of ailments. There are a few varieties of chamomile, wild, German, English, Roman (Chamaemelum nobile, Matricaria recutita, Matricaria chamomille). Depending on whom you talk with, they will tell you which one they consider to be the true chamomile. This herb is known for being aromatic; some saying it smells a little bit like apples. It produces small featherlike leaves with white flowers and a yellow round center. Chamomile likes a lot of sun, and depending on which variety you choose, the <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/soil"title="" >soil may be somewhat dry, or moist. It is said that the best time to harvest chamomile is while the sun is shining, allowing the natural oils in the chamomile flowers to come out. The flowers may be used fresh or dried to prepare tea.

Spearmint (Mentha Spicata) is similar to peppermint. It is a variety of mint that grows well in most climates growing anywhere from 11 to 40 inches tall. Its beautiful dark green foliage makes this perennial a perfect herb to grow in a container or pot, thus having it handy if the mood for brewing a cup of tea should strike. Spearmint likes partial shade and can be harvested around the time its flowers start to open. This herb can be enjoyed fresh as well as dried. Many have touted it as having the ability to treat stomach aches while others simply savor the refreshing aroma as a nice after dinner tea.

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a hairy perennial which needs a lot of sun, moist soil, and some shade to thrive. It can grow up to three feet tall with yellow-green leaves that smell like lemon. In late summer towards fall, it produces tiny flowers which serve as your signal that the leaves can be harvested around that time. While lemon balm can be used in many ways, from decorative to cosmetic and medicinal uses, many like to use the leaves to make tea. An English tea known as Melissa tea is made with lemon balm and mint. Take some lemon balm leaves, add a small amount of mint leaves, and steep in boiling water for five minutes then strain the tea. Melissa tea can be consumed either chilled with ice or hot and sweetened to taste.

With so many herbal plants to choose from, having your very own personal tea herb garden you’ll be able to come up with many flavor combinations. However, please note that while many herbs are considered safe, some do have drug interactions and precautions. Please take into account these concerns for safety.

Home is where your heart is. It is the place to go when you want to relax, have fun and do what you want. You will want every place in your home to be attractive – just the way you want it. This applies to your yard as well, and considering that your surroundings affect the way you feel, the appearance of your yard is of great importance.

Landscaping is an art. It is a place that contributes to the tranquility of your surroundings. Landscaping helps you achieve the aesthetic quality you desire for your garden and/or yard.

Landscaping does not need to be done by a professional design team. That is the beauty of it. You and your family, including your children can help assist in designing your surroundings for a more “family” type environment.

Here are some ideas to start you off.

You might want a garden, full of blossoming flowers, something that encircles your whole house. This is great since it will serve as the perimeter for your landscaping project.

Other ideas include assigning spots for other family members. Your children will want a play area where they can run and play with their friends. You might consider planting a shade tree to protect them from the harmful effects of extended exposure to the sun.

Another point to consider is an area your older children (or you and your spouse!) can use to play sports, grill some steaks or just relax in a chair and get the tan you desire. This is an important feature for your yard because you can consider it a place where you have fun and just relax.

Other areas should also be reserved for drying your clothes (if you choose not to use a dryer, for trash cans, and for your pets. These areas should be as close as possible to your house for easy access.

To be more artistic and aesthetically appealing, be prepared to use basic landscaping materials such as rocks, pebbles, trees, lawn and fences. These will help you achieve the view you want people to see and the functionality that a basic yard needs.

Perhaps a good thing to remember when designing your own yard is that you and other members of your family have artistic capabilities too. Remember that your home’s yard requires a family’s touch so you’ll be proud to say that you have created your own yard.

Just like the ad says “Just Do It,”; this is exactly the perspective one needs in getting good at garden designs. You can always move plants around your gardens and as your ideas and taste change, your gardens can grow with you. There are some simple elements of garden design. Think of designing your garden with living art in mind being creative and free to try whatever suits your taste. There are no limitations to the creativity that is within, no comparison or fear of failure. Although <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/gardening"title="" >gardening successfully requires learning certain skills, when all is said and done a garden’s beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Just go for it and let your gardens be the expression of you.
Garden design and its principles used may be called by different names. There are three basic concepts when combined together will bring about good garden design. Ultimately your gardens’ design is up to you and should reflect your own personality and flare.
Order, balance and proportion are the basic structure of the garden. Order is symmetrical through repeating plants or colors. Bold or bright additions bring balance as well as adding some texture. Texture is an important ingredient. Gardens come to life with different textured plants much like the human race. All different but flowing together and being brought together through unity and harmony creating comfort and peace. When all of the parts of the garden are flowing together it is captivating and ones’ spirit is caught up in the beauty.
Using a limited color pattern, repetition of plants and a clear focal point creates this environment. Theme gardens are very soothing: all one color, butterfly gardens or cross gardens keep you flowing in like unity. You’ll also hear a lot of talk about starting your garden with good bones. That basically means creating an outlining foundation, with trees, structures, paths, etc. for the rest of the garden to build off of. Evergreen is a favorite of the good bones.
Having a focal point is a big benefit for every garden. With no focal point the eye starts to wander here and there without every getting a grasp of a main feature. This is not creating the harmony you desire for your gardens or creating any curb appeal.
Beginning <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/gardener"title="" >gardeners seem to pick the same flowers or foliage over and over again which has no visual interest. Planting an architectural, bold leafed plant, can restore this visual interest instead of the monotony of likeness.
Last, but not least, is adding color to your gardens. Experimenting with your favorite colors is a good way to see what works best for you. The best advice to heed though is to start out with 2-3 colors to keep the artist palette limited. You can always add new colors to your gardens by eyeballing it along the way. This way you keep the living painting flowing in the harmony you wish to relate. You will then have a peaceful retreat that you have created and enable others to share that intimate part of you.

People ask me all the time what to do with their garden. I can immediately sense their frustration and disappointment. They feel intimidated and disconnected from their landscape. After studying garden magazines and design plans, they still don’t know where to begin. I often hear, "I thought it would be more fun." I agree. <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/gardening"title="" >Gardening should be more fun. It should also be more natural. So how do we create these rich, inviting spaces that are both beautiful and personal? Perhaps it’s as simple as putting the <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/gardener"title="" >gardener back into the garden, the inner gardener who speaks to us through the senses.

What is your preferred sense to enjoy the garden? Close your eyes and think about the word "garden." What memories, sounds, tastes, scents or images come to mind? Are you inundated with visuals or do you immediately imagine yourself biting into a ripe, red tomato? Maybe you see yourself sipping iced tea in the shade, or smelling roses. Take note of the impressions you receive and compile a list. It’s natural to give your dominant sense first priority. Just remember to include secondary elements to incorporate all of the senses.

Sight

Although the visual garden is the most obvious, it doesn’t have to be ordinary. Are you drawn to flowers with bright bold colors or tranquil landscapes with deep shade and minimalism? Maybe you prefer the intricacy and precision of an English formal garden. Sign up for your local garden tour and gather ideas from established gardens. Don’t forget solar lighting, candles and citronella torches to extend your enjoyment. Gardens can be magical at night!

Sound

Sound in the garden is often overlooked. For instant gratification, you can install wind chimes or a free standing fountain. To invite singing birds, add birdhouses and a feeder. Consider all-weather speakers if you like to entertain outdoors. You can purchase waterproof speaker systems in the shapes of rocks.

Smell

Everyone loves the fragrance of roses in bloom. Consider adding beds of lemon thyme and sage. Try growing moonflower vine on your fence. It blooms at night and has a clean, refreshing scent. Pick up a book on herb gardening, the possibilities are endless. I like to grow rosemary, patchouli and lavender for soap making.

Taste

There’s nothing like growing culinary herbs. Many of them can be dried or frozen to enjoy year-round. My favorites are basil and chives. Vegetable gardening is a passion for many. Don’t let a small yard inhibit your plans. I like to mix small vegetable plants among my perennials and annual flowers. You can grow tomatoes and peppers in a planter on your back porch. Small fruit trees are easy to grow and maintain. They add ornamental value as well. Try a dwarf peach or apple variety.

Touch

Few people think about the tactile sense while planning a garden. It’s a key element that we take for granted. We may have forgotten how much we enjoyed walking barefoot in the grass as a child. Have you ever stopped to watch people in a garden nursery? You’ll notice people touching pine needles, rubbing leaves or blades of grass. It’s a natural inclination. There are many subtle ways to connect with the sense of touch in the garden.. Think about adding a hammock or porch swing to enjoy the breeze against your skin. I love to use my copper fire pit as often as possible for warmth and ambience on a cool night. Try stargazing in a hot tub. The heat and stimulating jets can sooth aching muscles and rejuvenate the spirit. Anything that makes you feel physically comfortable in the garden can satisfy your sense of touch.

Now that you have an appealing list for inspiration, grab your shovel and get back out there. Indulge the senses, and your inner gardener will emerge.

Many people get really discouraged when it comes to <a href="http://www.seatacgardens.com/tag/gardening"title="" >gardening. Even thinking of building your own personal garden can be stressful. The truth is, though, that creating and designing your own herb garden can actually be very relaxing. If someone had a long day at work, working in a garden can help relieve some stress. Seeing your work efforts grow is truly an amazing feeling.

The first question that may come to mind is how much time should one devote towards maintenance to help keep the garden alive? Well, keep in mind that it just all depends on the size of your garden. If it is a small one, then little work will be required. The bigger the garden, the more work it will take to maintain it. Some people start out small to get a feel to what they are doing. From there you can add more plants to fit in your comfort zone.

When it comes to herb garden designs, you must consider how you would like your garden to look. Do you want it all to find a box shape area or a round area? If you would like to have the garden in a boxed in shape, the best idea would be using a stake and some string or yarn to make the outline. If you would like the space to have a curve area to it, a garden hose or some form of thick cord would be good to use. Do not worry about the permanent position of the plan as the plan can be moved.

You want to have some sort of pattern in your mind when creating herb garden designs. All can be done within your home. Keep space in mind. The basic thing to keep in mind is the natural basics. Be sure that your plant or plants have some sort of light being given to it. The garden will need the light and good ventilation. The garden is living like everyone else, so it is vital to keep that in mind. Depending on the type of herb garden you are growing, humidity will play a factor as well. Some plants will need more than others. You can use fluorescent lights or LED lighting. LED lighting is a little bit more expensive but will help out significantly.

With the information given, you should have a better chance to grow and maintain an indoor herbal garden. Gardens are very much alive and need care. Be sure to give light and moisture, all depending on the type of plant. Know a pattern that you feel comfortable with and stick with it. Your chances for success will be much higher.
